This 17th century religious painting originally hung in a private chapel in Naples, Italy. A close look at the painting reveals its main subject to be a young Virgin Mary.
The Virgin Mary is often painted standing in a crescent moon accented with roses, which symbolize both virtue and brevity of life. Here we see Mary donning a crown of soft roses while resting peacefully on a muted crescent shape.
Our research suggests the figures on either side of the young Mary are her parents, St. Joachim and St. Anne.
Even more stunning in person, this painting would be an elegant accent to any interior space.
